East Central Ohio ESC (ECOESC) offers a variety of alternative education programs to assist students who are having difficulty or are unable to adjust to traditional classroom settings. Our mission is to provide each student with a secure learning atmosphere that boosts self-esteem and enhances academic and social skills. ECOESC currently operates three alternative education schools.
The Alternative School is located in New Philadelphia and serves school districts in the northern part of our service region. The Belmont County Alternative Program (BCAP) is situated in St. Clairsville to provide services to our southern school districts. Fox Run is also located in St.
Clairsville and helps students who reside at Fox Run Hospital. The students at this center come from areas across the country. The core curriculum of these alternative education programs provides subjects that meet the requirements of the home school and the content standards required by the Ohio Department of Education. Subjects include, but are not limited to, English, science, mathematics, social studies, life skills, and physical education. Counseling is an essential component of alternative education programs, and ECOESC works in partnership with community counseling programs such as Southwest, Inc. Using a problem-solving approach, ECOESC integrates school, family, and community issues to achieve long-term behavior change.
We provide the student's home school and parents with a nine-week, mid-term report card. All aspects of the reports are compiled through daily and weekly goal setting, evaluations, grades, and staff meetings. The progress report provides an opportunity to visibly see the progress that staff and students have made. In addition to ECOESC's alternative education programs, there are other organizations that offer similar services in Central Ohio. Jane Kalonick is the director of education for the Belmont County Alternative Program (BCAP).
Bryan Kosikowski is the dean of the Willow Branches of Healing (OTSEGO) alternative school of the Students Village Network. Fort Hayes - Center Building 101546 Jack Gibbs Blvd, Columbus, Ohio 43215. EA works with families and school districts to provide struggling children in their public or charter schools with the educational support they need. It helps children from Columbus and Whitehall municipal schools stay in school and graduate through a variety of programs including peer mentoring, mentoring, health resources, and college and career readiness. A collaborative partnership between Buckeye Ranch and the Central Ohio Educational Services Center (ESCCO) provides educational and workforce development services, as well as educational support and career preparation for third and final year high school students. STAR school is an alternative school from the East Central Ohio Educational Services Center for teens with behavioral problems or school absences.
It provides students who are recovering from a substance use disorder with an education focused on recovery and a safe, supportive environment. An alternative education program that provides a structured and safe learning environment for students who need social, emotional, and behavioral interventions is also available.
